What Do I Need To Do To Be Free From Depression

Steps to take in order to be free from depression

There are steps to take and things to understand in order to be free from depression and all those negative thoughts that are dominating your mind.

I have listed some things here that are very important. Of course there is much more to say, but those steps are important for your beginning, your starting point.

The following steps are the ones that have been the foundation for my own deliverance.

1.Acknowledge God as your only deliverer!

Acknowledge God as your only help might seem like an obvious thing, but I am telling you, it is not! It is very tempting somewhere in the process to start thinking that you will manage this on your own.

It is so important to always focus on God as our source. For me the key has been worship and thanksgiving. Thanksgiving releases your faith and makes the power of God move in your life! If you thank God – during the whole process – you will see the power of it!

2.Make a decision that you really want to be free!

When Jesus healed people you can see in the Gospels that he often were asking the people what they wanted Him to do for them!

Many people that come to our meetings for healing, for example, never really want to be healed! Yes, it is true. It sounds strange, you easily think that of course people that are sick want to be healed but that is not so.

So many people have there identity in their sickness. And because of that they almost loose them selves if the get healed! It is the same risk with people that suffer from depression and that are bound in negativity. For many it has become their identity. I hear people saying: I am that depressive type, and I have always been this way. The depression has caught them and they have become one with it.

If you have that kind of thinking you can not be free. That is the truth, God will never violate your will, and healing comes to you because you want it and believe for a change. So make a quality decision that you want to be free from depression.

3.Fill yourself with the word of God.

The word of God is powerful! In the Old Testament there is a bible verse that I think is crucial. It says: He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
(Psa 107:20 KJV)

God did send His word to heal us, to restore us. Everything that is trying to destroy us, the word of God can change.
We shall live of Gods word. Not just have it as “head knowledge”. Eat the word for a healthy mind the same way we eat good, healthy food for our bodies.

To meditate and dwell on the word of God is a very important part of our 26 weeks “Changed by the word” course.

Read good books on the subject, listen to mp3, watch good Christian TV, feed yourself with the word of God while you are out walking, doing the laundry etc. This is a good help for depressed and dark mind. Put bible verses on the wall, remind yourself constantly about what the word says.

4.See that God has already done everything for you!

You don’t need to beg and plead with God to help you! God wants to help you more than you want to be free!
Many people get stuck here. They come to God as beggars, not as His child! See yourself as the daughter/son to the greatest King! No, you don’t deserve to be called that, but you are! If you are saved, you have the same inheritance as Jesus! Sounds to good to be true, but that’s the gospel!

Read this verse: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
(Eph 1:3 KJV)

All the spiritual blessings…..do you need more? No, I do not think so! That is enough to get us free from depression. But we have to start living in it!
