It is remarkable how easy it is for us to feel accused and condemned. For a Christian depression many times enters this way; by us feeling condemned.
As soon as we have failed in some area those thoughts of condemnation arise: Why did I do this? I always fail. Why does everything work for others but not for me? We compare ourselves with those who we think are successful, and then we feel like failures.
And worse; when I think this way as a Christian depression are hiding behind the door because we also believe that God has the same opinion about us as we have ourselves; that He also thinks: Why can she never do things in a right way, or she always fail, she is no good…”
Having a bad self image
If we are not watching out those thoughts of condemnation might create an image of us as bad and failing. And if we continue to dwell on those thoughts that image we are creating will make us perform worse than we use to. It is how those negative pattern works.
Instead, we can receive the wonderful word of deliverance that God gives us:
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in union with Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death. (Rom 8:1-2 ISV)
Getting over depression
– get new self image from Jesus
With other words; when we become saved all sin has was removed from us! We now live free from sin and condemnation. We live in Jesus, and He took it. The sin I mean! The law that tried to tell you that you have to do this or that, and if you do not to that you will be punished has been replaced by the law of freedom! The law of the Spirit! Nothing can accuse me anymore!
But why is it that I still feel accused and put down then? And why do I sometimes think that God looks at me the same way? Because our mind, our thoughts are thinking the old way. Thinking about how it was before Jesus came and delivered us. In our hearts we are now new creations, the old man is gone and something new has come, says the Bible. The new life – free from condemnation and sin!
What do I need to do then? One good thing to do is, and that is what this site is all about, is to feed ourselves with the truth; the word of God that tells us that there is no condemnation. We have to think about it and make it our own!
Christ has set us free so that we may enjoy the benefits of freedom. So keep on standing firm in it, and stop attaching yourselves to the yoke of slavery again. (Gal 5:1 ISV)
It is so important to know what we believe and put our trust in it. We have an enemy that always wants us to be under the pressure of condemnation, because he then knows that we will lack all confidence in our service for God, and we hesitate to come to God and ask for help. To live under condemnation makes one paralyzed. Or it makes us do thing with the wrong motivation. If we feel bad, it is tempting to try to put thing right again with making good deeds and then we are under this slavery under the law again.
That is why the enemy accuses us all the time. He is the accuser. The Bible tells us that he accuses us day and night. He wants every one of us to stay under the yoke of condemnation.
But thanks to God! We do not need to stay there; we can receive the victory that Jesus has given us. Are you a Christian – depression and condemnation is conquered by Jesus! Are you not a Christian, depression is still conquered! But you need to receive it by receiving Jesus!
